Elon Musk has transferred more than $76 million to his political committee, America PAC, during the first two weeks of October, according to a pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission. The funding is designated for efforts to support Republican candidates in the final weeks of the midterm election cycle. The committee's activity has been concentrated in the Texas Senate race.
Of the $76 million provided by Musk, America PAC has deployed nearly $43 million in spending since the beginning of October. The committee reported holding nearly $47 million in cash reserves heading into the final stretch of the campaign. A substantial portion of this outlay, $15.2 million, was directed to the Texas contest between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. This amount is double the total the committee spent in that state throughout the entire summer. The funds were used for $12.4 million in spending to oppose Talarico and $2.8 million to support Paxton.
Musk's total personal political contributions for this election cycle have surpassed $445 million to Republican-aligned groups, establishing him as the largest known individual donor in the midterms. Since July, America PAC alone has received more than $165 million from him. The committee has not commented on its recent activities. In recent posts on X, Musk has criticized Talarico, at one point stating, “there is something deeply wrong with Talarico.” Talarico responded to such statements with a comment about the political system: “There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator.”
The Texas Senate race remains a toss-up, according to an Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters conducted October 17-19. The poll found Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent, a margin within the survey's 3-point error tolerance.
The implications of the midterm results for Musk are significant. If Democrats secure control of the House of Representatives, committee leaders have indicated they would investigate his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the federal contracts held by his companies. Representative Zoe Lofgren, a California Democrat, has previously described the number of potential conflicts of interest as “astounding.” On Friday, three California representatives also sent a letter to the White House requesting an investigation into restrictions on SpaceX's Starshield service in Ukraine, vowing that the next Congress “will closely scrutinize federal funding awarded to Mr. Musk’s businesses.”
